On October 15, 1669, the University of Innsbruck was established as a public research institution in Innsbruck, the federal state of Tyrol in Austria.

After Vienna University and the University of Graz, it is now the largest educational institution in the Austrian Bundesland of Tirol and the third largest in all of Austria. Numerous fields have seen significant advancements, most notably in the physics department.

In terms of articles posted on Web of Science, it is ranked third globally in the field of mountain research. The business administration department is ranked in the top 15 in German-speaking nations in the 2015 Handelsblatt Ranking.

A discussion on the Peace Studies course took conducted in October 2021 at the University of Innsbruck. The Austrian Broadcasting Company (ORF) and the Tiroler Tageszeitung were the first media outlets to show interest in this discussion.

The debate led to a press conference by the central university administration, in which they stated that the peace studies program—which was still referred to as the MA Program—was only an elective course for peace, development, security, and the resolution of international conflicts that would soon be converted into a regular study programme leading to a university degree.

Eligibility For University of Innsbruck Scholarship

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Bachelor, Master and PhD degree in the following fields: Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Educational Science, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Faculty of Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, School of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Statistics, Catholic Theology Faculty, Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture, Faculty of Philosophy and History, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Teacher Education.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Applicants must have a grade point average no lower than 2.0 for the examinations, courses and written pieces of work they submit for the performance scholarship.
  • The grade point average is calculated based on the individual grades. Overall grades are not used to calculate the grade point average.
  • Applicants must fulfil all general conditions to apply for a performance scholarship.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum number of semester hours/ECTS-Credits in the year prior to the application being made. The number of semester hours/ECTS-Credits required differs and is set out in the special requirements of each faculty.
